Former NHL all-star Eric Staal has officially announced his retirement following an illustrious 18-season career. The Carolina Hurricanes confirmed the end of his storied journey with a ceremonial one-day contract, allowing Staal to retire as a member of the team that drafted him second overall in the 2003 NHL Draft.
